High Protein Cherry Vanilla Smoothie
Reminiscent of a cherry milkshake, this cherry vanilla smoothie will satisfy your afternoon sweet tooth but can double as a light and easy breakfast on busy mornings.
This smoothie. It’s like a a cherry milkshake. Actually, I might even go as far as to say that the flavors resemble Ben & Jerrys cherry garcia ice cream. I’m not promising that it will satisfy your craving for Ben & Jerrys (Let’s be real: smoothies are not ice cream), but if you like those flavors of cherry garcia or cherry milkshakes, you’re going to love this smoothie.
The perfect afternoon snack or light breakfast
This smoothie can double as a light breakfast (pair it with a piece of peanut butter toast for a more substantial meal) or an afternoon snack. It’s packed with good-for-you ingredients and has all of the components I look for in a meal or snack: produce, protein, healthy fats, and fiber.
My toddler LOVES this smoothie and we’ve been enjoying it together on hot summer afternoons.
What makes this cherry vanilla smoothie high protein?
Two ingredients: Greek yogurt and hemp seeds.
In fact, this smoothie packs in 11 grams of protein for only 150 calories.
How to customize your cherry vanilla smoothie
Make it dairy-free: use coconut yogurt or another plant-based yogurt. This will decrease the protein in the smoothie, but can still be a satisfying option!
Sweeten it up: This is already a pretty sweet smoothie because of the cherries. But if you prefer it even sweeter, you could add a teaspoon of honey or maple syrup or use vanilla Greek yogurt.
Make it more of a meal: Add 1/2 an avocado or 1-2 Tbsp of peanut butter to make it even more filling.
Don’t have hemp seeds? You can use ground flax seed instead.
